Program Description
The Pre-Professional Internship Program at the Ohio College of Podiatric
Medicine (OCPM) is designed to provide insight into the many facets
of podiatric medicine and the education involved with obtaining
the Doctor of Podiatric Medicine Degree. The internship offers a
two or four week experience in the months of June and July. Student
interns rotate through the following departments in the Cleveland
Foot and Ankle Clinic on OCPM's campus: General Medicine, Podiatric
Medicine, Orthopedics/Biomechanics, and Podiatric Surgery. A typical
day includes open clinic observations in the mornings and department
rotations in the afternoons. Interns will have the opportunity to
participate in grand rounds on Wednesday mornings and observe surgeries
on Mondays and Fridays. Interns will participate in workshops on
admissions, financial aid, student activities and the first-year
experience. Interns will also have the opportunity to interact with
current OCPM students in discussion-based student forums, as well
as social events in the Cleveland area. The dates for the 2002 programs
are:
Session I:
January 7-11 (1 week)
Session II: June 3-14 (2 weeks)
Session III: July 15-26 (2 weeks)
College Description
The Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine is located in the heart of
Cleveland's University Circle. The college was founded in 1916 and
since that time it has established an alumni network of over 5,000
graduates. The degree program offered at the college is a four-year
program with an emphasis on the classroom and lab experience in
the first and second year of the curriculum, followed by clinical
rotations and externships for upper-division students. OCPM houses
laboratories, classrooms, a library, the Cleveland Foot and Ankle
Clinic, and the Carnegie Surgery Center.
Expenses
and Housing Accommodations
There is no cost for the internship program itself. However, prospective
interns should understand that some expense is incurred due to transportation
and living expenses (housing and meals). Housing arrangements for
the January program are being made through OCPM student hosts. Please
indicate your need for housing on the internship application.
